In response to a recent fire incident in Swansea, the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service has issued a critical warning regarding the safety of household appliances, particularly washing machines and tumble dryers. The fire, which erupted around 12:26 GMT on Thursday in a Gorseinon home, was deemed to have started accidentally in the utility room. The blaze resulted in significant fire and smoke damage to the property.
The fire service emphasized the importance of never leaving appliances running while unattended, specifically advising against turning on washing machines or tumble dryers when leaving the house or going to bed. They pointed out that these appliances are equipped with powerful motors which generate considerable heat during operation, potentially leading to hazardous situations if left unsupervised.
Additionally, the fire service cautioned against overloading tumble dryers and urged homeowners not to include items that have been soaked in flammable substances, such as cooking oil, in these appliances. These precautions are essential to prevent similar incidents and ensure household safety.
