Urban Explorers Beware: Trespassers Face Warning at Cardinal Lofts

The abandoned Cardinal Lofts in Ipswich has become a hotspot for urban explorers, prompting the building's owner, Grey GR, to issue a strong warning against trespassing. The nine-story building was evacuated in February 2023 after Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service deemed it structurally unsafe. Following the evacuation, the site has attracted social media attention from urban explorers who capture their illicit activities within the deteriorating structure.

Despite efforts to secure the property, Grey GR claims that trespassing remains a significant issue, with repeated unauthorized access posing further risks. A company spokesperson stated that comprehensive measures have been taken to reinforce security at all entry points, but the ongoing problem of anti-social behavior continues to challenge their efforts. Grey GR emphasized the dangers associated with the building's instability and urged the public to refrain from illegally accessing the site.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service has echoed the owner's concerns, noting evidence of unauthorized entry and stating they have notified Grey GR to enhance security measures to prevent access. Cardinal Lofts has been vacant for approximately two years, following the removal of around 100 residents due to safety issues that Grey GR claims they were unaware of when they acquired the property in 2017.

Other properties in Ipswich are experiencing similar issues with urban explorers; for instance, the owner of the Great White Horse Hotel has expressed frustration over the repeated break-ins, labeling those involved as reckless. As the trend of exploring abandoned buildings continues, authorities remind the public of the legal and safety risks of trespassing in unsafe structures.
